01 · Know the pieces

Three building blocks.

Skill

A reusable way to do a task.

Instructions, examples, and sometimes supporting resources for work like project updates. Update the skill as you learn what works.

Connector

Access your apps.

Connects Claude to a tool like Outlook. Some connections retrieve information; others can take actions. Check what each connector supports and which permissions you grant.

Plugin

A bundle for a kind of work.

Can package skills, connectors, and other tools together. Review what is included before enabling it.

02 · Start with your daily tools

Connect these first.

EmailOutlook · Gmail
“Build a timeline of every email from the client.”
FilesOneDrive · SharePoint · Google Drive · Dropbox · Box
“Find the latest Acme project plan and summarize its milestones.”
CalendarOutlook · Google Calendar
“List my meetings and deadlines for the next two weeks.”

03 · Give a complete assignment

Prompting connectors.

Say what you want and where to find it.

Combine them

“Search my email and project files, update me on the Acme project, and draft an email updating the client.”

For a clearer assignment, use the five-part prompting framework.

04 · Review the work

Links, approval, and sensitive data.

Ask for links.

Link every email and file you relied on. Then spot-check them.

Approve each action.

Review before anything sends, signs, or deletes. Use a one-time approval when that option is available.

Protect sensitive data.

In the guide’s settings: Settings → Privacy → “Help improve Claude”, toggle off.

Connections and controls depend on your account and can change. Confirm available permissions and your organization’s requirements before connecting sensitive materials.

Keep a copy

One useful reference set.

Save them to your files, print them for your desk, or keep them handy during your next assignment.
